Why am I so passionate about alcohol education?
As a child I saw my father being assisted into the home by two men who laid him on his bed. I was upset and anxiously cried “what’s wrong with my daddy?” The men said he would be ok in the morning. Seeing my six foot dad in that condition was scary. Knowing that alcohol caused it made me wonder why anyone would choose to drink it, only to lose control of themselves and suffer from it.
Today I am a registered psychotherapist in private practice. As a therapist, it is my priority to create a therapeutic atmosphere that promotes growth and positive change for you. We cannot put alcohol in prison or make it pay the legal fees and correct the damage it has caused. Facing the reality of the choice to drink alcoholic beverages gives more clarity about what you can do about it now before it kills you.
I use a variety of approaches to address my clients unique needs. A tailored treatment plan will utilize cognitive-behavioral, compassion focus therapy, eclectic, family systems, narrative, psychoeducational, solution-focused brief therapy.
Additionally, there is a growing body of research that supports the practice of self-compassion and mindfulness in psychotherapy. Neuroscience research reveals individuals that practice these techniques are happier, more resilient, and better equipped to heal painful memories from the past. I help my clients move past what’s blocking them from reaching their full potential individually and in their relationships.
